Surface Level Records was founded during the latter months of 2012 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by Fortified PhonetX and Proseed.  It was around this time each was building up to the release of their full-length albums.  Rather than fending for themselves alone they decided that forming an alliance may be in their best interest.  Surface Level Records (SLR) was then born.

    Since its creation the SLR family has expanded with the additions of Joey Smooth, Shaggy Rogers, and Stillborn Identity.  With a talented roster of deejays, emcees, producers, and graphic artists who value artistic independence and creative individualism, SLR is a community organically formed to support one another in an effort to reach individual, and collective, goals within the Hip Hop arts.
